Today on Reading Wednesday I’ll be sticking with the vintage theme of the last two weeks (Ladies’ Home Magazine Part one<\/a> and two<\/a>) and share my Nancy Drew Mysteries collection. Let’s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My collection consists of forty-four books. Some of them are the same books, but from different years. I’ll show an example of that in a moment. These books were picked up mostly from antique stores, thrift stores, and library sales. I’d still like to have the complete set. I’m only missing a few. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nancy Drew books were something I read voraciously when I was younger. I enjoyed the feel that the stories had, and after I read my first one, I went on (If I’m remembering correctly) to read all of them. Oh, minus the modern Nancy Drew’s. Those never caught my interest. I stuck to the originals. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s an example of the same book, though from different years. And also a few of my other vintage copies. Starting from the left, The Secret of the Old Clock<\/em> is from 1987. The copy directly beside it is from 1959. (The older ones are my favorite. \ud83d\ude42 ) The Password to Larkspur Lane<\/em> is from 1933, while The Mystery of the Brass Bound Trunk<\/em> is from 1940. I think it’s interesting to see how the cover designs changed as the years went on. And even some of the content of the books themselves are heavily edited from the originals. Not always for the better, I’ve found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nancy Drew Mysteries: Where to find them.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Anyway, when I was reading the Nancy Drew books, I found them interesting and gripping. Of course, that was years ago. I wonder what I would think of them now? I still believe that they are for the most part appropriate for young-ish readers. None of the mysteries are too dark, even if they head in that way a little. It’s always resolved in the end in a way to allay any fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll leave a link to a boxed set of the first five books in the series<\/a>. Please keep in mind that the books in the boxed set are the newest editions (the bright yellow ones) and do differ, in varying degrees, from the originals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
