Well, it might not really be an unexpected post, but given the subject matter, the reference was too good to resist. \ud83d\ude09 What is that subject you ask? J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few months ago I suggested The Lord of the Rings<\/em> series. (I’ll link to that post here<\/a>.) Well, here I am again with the book preceding that series, The Hobbit<\/em>. Oh, and if you would like another suggestion to read this book, just ask my brother about it. This used to be the only book he would read. Literally. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I’ve heard that Tolkien wrote this book for his children. Wether that’s true or not, it does seem geared toward younger readers. Not to say, though, that an older reader would think it boring. It’s just not as steeped in backstory and information as the LOTR series. It has more the feel of just a good adventurous journey story. Which is exactly what it is, I suppose. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobbits, wizards, dwarves, trolls, dragons, all make an appearance in this novel. It begins in the home of Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who, before the events of this book, was considered quite respectable. He lives in a hobbit hole, and on one fine morning is visited by a wizard, Gandalf. After that surprising arrival, more visitors drop in at his home. What then begins is a journey not entirely enjoyed by Bilbo, but interesting to the reader. \ud83d\ude09 Anyway, I don’t want to give away too much of the story. After all, isn’t a lot of the enjoyment found in the surprising turns of a story?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And to make it easy to find the Hobbit (no journeys through Mirkwood here \ud83d\ude09 ) I’ll leave a link<\/a>. I hope you pick up a copy and read it for yourself. And, I should add, that even if you’ve already read this book, there’s nothing wrong with going back and reading it again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
