I hope you’re doing well this Reading Wednesday! Today we’ll be taking a look at the books depicting the childhood, girlhood and womanhood of a woman. The one who would become Laura Ingalls Wilder’s mother! These books are The Caroline Years. Let’s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second to the original series written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this series is probably my favorite out of the ones connected to her. (I talked about two others here<\/a> and here<\/a>.) That may be because there are more books in this series than the other two preceding it, but I think I like the story and writing better anyway. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now I only have five out of seven of the books from this series, but I did enjoy the ones I do have.If I’m remembering correctly, the one where she traveled to the city was my favorite. But, I liked the rest of them as well. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The books begin in 1845 with a five-year-old Caroline Quiner. Her father was lost at sea, leaving her mother a widow and her family struggling to get along without the man of the house. The books continue on from there to Charles and Caroline’s courtship. Another reason this series was my favorite was the foreshadowing to the Little House series. The move to Concord, Caroline meeting Charles Ingalls, etc. I’m not exactly sure how much of the books are fact, but they’re probably close enough that everything that happens in them could<\/em> have happened in real life. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where to find The Caroline Years:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately I have not had very much luck finding the books in these series’ online. Thrift stores and used books shops are about all I can recommend. I hope you find them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
