Here we are on another Reading Wednesday! Today, as a natural continuance to the series’ I have been posting, I’ll be taking a look at the Little House on the Prairie series. I’ll put the links for those other posts here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>. Let’s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, as you can see, are our rather dilapidated copies of the Little house on the Prairie series. I haven’t read these books in years, but I know I enjoyed them when I did. As you know, they are geared toward children. As a result, the last time I read the books, I leaned more towards the ones where Laura and her family were older. These<\/em> Happy Golden Years<\/em> was probably my favorite book of the series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you are an older reader, I think that you’d enjoy the historical and instructive portions of the books. Laura Ingalls Wilder gave useful descriptions of a lot of the various different chores etc, that were common in those days. I remember that one time, after reading this series, I was inspired to make a rag rug like Mary does in one of the later books. The books give an excellent look into the lives of pioneers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One book steers away from the Ingalls, and instead focuses on the Wilder family. (Almanzo Wilder, you’ll remember, marries Laura.) That book, Farmer Boy, has a different feel than the others. The Wilder family was a little wealthier than the Ingalls. And, instead of setting out across the prairie, remain on the same well-established farm for many years. All in all, it’s a good series to read for yourself or to others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
