About the books:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Today, I’m sharing this trilogy. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of this<\/a> series. What with the setting, time period, writing style, and the character’s faith. Naturally, since I enjoyed that series so much, I was happy to read another similar to it. I was introduced to this series just a couple of months ago. I hadn’t heard of it before that time. Since I usually enjoy reading books set in this time of America’s history, I was happy to read this series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about you, do you like books about this time? For myself, I find that reading about the lives (even if they are fictional) of the pioneers is eye-opening. It makes you wonder if you would be able to do the same, to travel across the untamed prairies, to carve out a life for you and your family. And although there isn’t much chance for such things in modern times, at least we can read and imagine. \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Full disclosure, however, I wasn’t entirely thrilled with the first book, Walks the Fire<\/em> (it just didn’t pull me in, really). I thought that the second and third were much better. I suppose that I had to become acquainted with the style of the books, before I could be fully immersed in the story. So, don’t give up on the series, even if you don’t find the first book to your taste. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series loosely follows the lives of three women, with some portions written from different characters’ point-of-view. The women face heartache and tragedy on the prairie, but they also have happiness and peaceful times. And, they find love. The settings range from a wagon train, to Indian camps, to a town rapidly making it’s mark on the Nebraskan prairie, to Philadelphia for the Great Centennial Exposition.
