Hello again! Today I’m sharing another sewing project: how to make a skirt out of a sheet!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I actually made the skirt, pictured above, a few years ago. It was a failed attempt to make a maxi skirt, since I didn’t notice when I originally cut it out, that there was a big hole in the back. Just a little bit of a problem. (Oh, and I’m not sure why the photos are so blurry. You can still get the idea, though. \ud83d\ude09 ) The sheets I used were part of an old set that no one was using anymore. They still looked good, though, and are a nice, comfy knit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I did:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
So, fast-forward until a couple of days ago. I was sewing some other skirts (I finished one and made another, both of which will probably make an appearance on the blog.) when I found this abandoned skirt in my sewing pile. I tried it on, and though it was unwearable as a long skirt, the fit was good in the top half. I decided to cut it in half, and use the good part for a different skirt. But not just any skirt…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

…a ruffle-edged one! I used the oh-so-convenient gathered edge on the fitted bed sheet, so it was pretty simple. I cut out two pieces of edging for the front and back of the skirt. I made the panels eight inches wide, and about twenty-five inches long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, I hand-basted a thin hem on the bottom of the top half of the skirt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then I pinned the ruffles to the hem I had just basted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here’s a photo of what it looked like when I had finished that step. Then it was time to sew the panels to the rest of the skirt. I used red thread that would blend in, and a zig-zag stitch to give the stretchy knit a bit of room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
And here’s what it looks like! I’m not going to show what it looks like on me, yet. I’m planning on wearing it soon, so I’ll just share it with an entire outfit. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oh, and just to be clear: I used part of the top sheet for the original maxi skirt. The fitted sheet was used for the ruffles at the bottom. I also made another skirt out of the fitted sheet. But it was still only one set of sheets. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n
