West from Home

Hello again! Today on Reading Wednesday we’ll be taking a look at an interesting collection of letters (in book form) West from Home. Let’s get started!

Oh, and this book was written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, who just happens to have also authored The Little House on the Prairie series.

These letters chronicle Laura Ingalls Wilder’s journey to San Francisco in 1915. She’s writing the letters to her husband Almanzo, who was unable to leave the farm.

Laura travelled to San Francisco to visit her daughter, Rose Wilder Lane, and her trip coincided with a historical event taking place in the city, the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The letters give a glimpse into Laura Ingalls Wilder’s private thoughts and observations; as well as into an event of historical importance.

This book can not only be enjoyed by girls, but boys also! My younger brother can vouch for that. 😉

Where to find West from Home:

And I’ll leave a link to the book here. Oh, and as it looked like on the website that I’ve linked to, the book is apparently geared toward younger readers. I’m not sure that necessarily has to be the case, however; since it’s just the letters that Laura wrote to her husband. How about you be the judge!

That’s all for now! What have you been reading lately? ~ Emily
