Jack and Jill
Hello! Today on Reading Wednesday I’ll be taking a look at another Louisa May Alcott novel, Jack and Jill. Let’s get started!
Is this another book intended for young-ish readers? Yes. Is it still enjoyable to older readers? Also yes, though it does depend on if you want to enjoy it or not. 😉
Jack and Jill follows the story of, go figure, Jack and Jill (whose actual name is Janey), when they take a rather disastrous tumble down a hill during a sledding party. What follows is the tale of their recuperation and also a weaving in of the other characters, such as Jack’s brother Frank, Jill’s friends Molly and Merry, etc; and chronicles the mistakes they make and the lessons they learn as a result, among other topics.
It’s similar to Little Women, though still not quite on the same level. But, if you want something to read while sitting on a hillside and looking down into a little valley and forest beyond (which I may or may not have done) it’s a great choice. Just a cozy little story perfect for the coming cooler weather.
