Savoring the last of Winter
As I said in the welcome post for the new chapter of Simply Emily Rose, I’m hoping to branch out with the content I post here on the blog. So today I thought I’d post some tips for making the last months of winter count!
Winter is passing, and depending on where you live, it may already be turning to warmer days. I love winter, and the colder months, but I know that some find it hard to deal with the short days and long nights. Are you looking for ways to breathe new life into the days? Allow me to suggest a few things that I myself have enjoyed.
Tips for savoring winter:
- Reading. (Did you think this wouldn’t be on the list? 😉 ) One of my favorite things to do in the long evenings is to set my phone out of reach and read a book. Of course, it can be tempting to continuously scroll, but reading, in my opinion (and I doubt I’m alone in this) is a much better use of time. I would also suggest reading books set in the winter, or at the very least, a classic novel. There’s just something about classic novels that remind me of the cold months. What do you think?
- Taking walks out in the cold. Yes, this doesn’t sound very enjoyable, but if you get over the not wanting to be out in the cold, it’s definitely worth it. I would also suggest that the walks take place, at least in part, in the woods. It’s so peaceful in the woods, and if you layer up well, you can be just as warm outside as you are inside! Also, the sunsets are spectacular. 🙂
- Baking. Winter and baking go hand in hand, in my book. What’s more cozy than a cold day outside, a warm cup of coffee inside, and fresh baked goods? As a plus, my dad also greatly appreciates when I bake. If you don’t live with family, perhaps there is someone else you could bless with some fresh baked cookies or a streusel loaf.
- Game nights. This one is a little different, since it depends more on the people you know. Have you ever brought your friend group together to play games and eat snacks? There’s something very heartwarming in getting together friends and spending time laughing, talking, and playing games. And on the plus side, it doesn’t need to be anything fancy. A few boardgames, or even a pack of cards. Pop some popcorn. And enjoy the time with your friends.
- Take up a hobby. This could be new, or an old one that you haven’t worked on in a while. Winter is a great time to work on hobbies, since life tends to be just a little slower. Trust me, you won’t regret spending time on something you’ve always wanted to learn. Piano? Drawing? Knitting a hat? Just try it!
Well, that’s all for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post. If you’d like more content like this (or completely different 😉 ) don’t forget to subscribe! Until next time ~ Emily
