A Lesson in Patience

A Lesson in Patience

Hello! Today I’ll be sharing what I’ve recently been working on in the area of artistic pursuits.

The project:

What is that, you ask? This, very detailed, “paint-by-number”. (I don’t really like calling it that, since it sounds like I’m working on a little kid’s coloring sheet…but it is technically a “paint-by-number”) Anyway, I’ve worked on this painting for many hours already, but as you can see, I still have a long way to go.

This photo shows how far along I am at this point in time. It is a little more filled in than in the photo above it, and I can really start to see what the finished product will look like. It’s a wintry scene, with an old truck half-covered in snow and lots of green foliage and such surrounding it. Perhaps, when I’m finished, I’ll share a photo of the finished painting. Sound good?

The set came with 28 colors, all of which are used to fill in the tiny spaces pictured below. It takes a lot of time and careful, patient, filling-in-of-lines, but overall it’s been an enjoyable project.

Full disclosure, I almost didn’t post about this painting. I felt like it was sort of cheating when all I have to do is fill in the numbered spaces. It just didn’t seem very creative to me. But, I eventually came to the conclusion that becoming more comfortable painting in any form will help me towards my someday goal of painting what I see outside. ( I lack in that area currently. It usually turns out looking like a little kid’s painting rather than something I would want to say was my own work.) At least, in the process of working on this project, I see how different paints look together, and get used to working with a paintbrush. That has to count for something, right? 😉

If you’d like to try your hand at something similar, I’ll leave a link to one I like here.

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little insight into what I’m currently in the process of creating. Have you been working on anything interesting lately? ~ Emily
