Making a Jean Skirt: Part 2
Today is about making a jean skirt, the second part. The skirt actually turned out a lot better than I thought it might! So let’s get into how I took from here to finished!
As you can see in this photo, the back is a lot neater after top-stitching. I ironed down the seams, then stitched them. Oh, and I might add that this part wen a lot faster than it could have, since we actually got our sewing machines fixed. I was pretty happy about that. 🙂
And here’s what the skirt looks like (inside out) full scale.
The next step was to install the zipper. I’m actually (slowly) losing my nervousness about putting zippers in. They don’t seem like quite so much of a hurdle now. Oh, and a word on placement. Whenever I self-draft patterns that need zippers, I always put the zippers in the side. I find that placement a lot more flattering and comfortable.
Here’s what it looked like, before top-stitching. I’m not very particular about putting the zippers in (and most likely I did something wrong 😉 ) but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.
Here is the finished zipper and top-stitching. This is my favorite part of the sewing process, when everything starts looking all neat and finished. With every step before that, you never really know if the skirt is going to turn out in the end or not. Or maybe that’s just me… 😉
And here is the completed skirt! One of my sister’s also said that it turned out better than she thought it might have, so that’s high praise. 😉
A step that is not reflected in this post is one that I did later on. I put a seam into the back of the skirt, since I have the habit of making clothes too big for me. The seam took care of that extra material, and no one was the wiser. (Well, except everyone who reads this blog… 😉 )
And that’s part two of making a jean skirt! If you’d like to see the skirt actually being worn, check back on Modest Monday. I’m planning on sharing a few photos then!
That’s it for now. What products have you been working on recently? ~ Emily
