Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea
Hello again! It’s Reading Wednesday. Today I’ll be talking about Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Let’s get started!
Chances are, you’ve already heard of this book, or even already read it. That doesn’t mean I can’t post about it, though. 😉
I was actually a little surprised (when I read this book for the first time years ago) that I liked it. It seemed like it would be a little too technical, or, whatever would be the word I’m looking for. You know, when a book gives so much detail that it either makes the pacing really slow and drawn out or you completely forget what’s going on. This book, though it does give large amounts of detail, didn’t really draw me out of the story. Jules Verne was very thorough in his research; and even if what the Nautilus accomplishes in the book hadn’t previously been done in real life, he made you think that it was entirely possible!
Captain Nemo is the mysterious leader of the small world of the Nautilus. When Pierre Aronnax and two other survivors are saved from drowning by this captain, he refuses to let them return to land. As a result, they continue on to many underwater adventures, some that are rather harrowing.
