Love Comes Softly
Hello again! It’s Reading Wednesday. Let’s begin, shall we?
There’s a little story behind my acquiring and reading this series. My mom found the tv series years and years ago, which we watched and really liked. (Though, personally, I enjoy the books much more. 😉 I hadn’t even realized that they were based off of books, until I found the two on the bottom of the stack pictured above, in a thrift store. Those are the last four in an eight-book series. I read them, even though I hadn’t read the first four yet. Of course, they didn’t really make sense, since they were separated from the rest of the series. Fast-forward a few years, and I came across the two books, on top of the stack, in another thrift store! I was pretty happy to find them both together and in such good condition! I promptly read the series from first book to last, enjoying every minute of it. 🙂
The books start out with a young woman named Marty. She and her late-husband were traveling across the prairies when tragedy struck. As a result, she was alone and destitute, until a young farmer of steadfast faith offers her a way to survive: Become his wife and care for his motherless daughter over the Winter and he’ll provide the means for her to travel back to her family in the East the next Spring. You’ll just have to read the books to see what happens next. 😉 The rest of the series follow Marty and her family through many other trials and celebrations as they live and work as pioneers did. A few venture to the West to start cattle ranches, and still another travels to Boston to live the life of a wealthy heiress. All-in-all, it’s a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the settlers and pioneers who populated this country. I suggest you find the series and read it for yourself!
I hope you enjoyed this post! Until next time ~ Emily
