A Twist on French Toast
Hello, it’s Simply Saturday!
Today (despite how late this post is going up) I’m featuring another of my interests: Baking! I had a little trouble deciding this week which project to share, but I finally chose these cookies.
If you’ve ever made cookies before, then these pictures will look pretty familiar. Mixing up the butter and sugar, eggs and vanilla and flavoring, as simple as that.
I think of baking as edible art. Even the humblest cookie has something special about it. It’s a product of the work and time you put into it. Even though it will probably be gone within the next few days (or less if you have brothers 😉) you’re still honing your skills as a baker. You could use that ability to open your own bakery, or use your knowledge of the kitchen to add just that much more realistic detail to a novel. Or none of that. Perhaps you’ll go on and marry and have a family of your own, that you’ll provide with delicious desserts, dinners and so forth. There is a lot that a young woman still at home can learn in preparation for her future, though she doesn’t know what it is yet. And those skills last a lot longer than a little cookie.
Now, on to details about the cookies themselves. A few weeks ago, I was browsing through a Taste of Home magazine, that my Grandma passed along to my family, when I came across this recipe. I snapped a picture of it with my phone, then mostly forgot about until yesterday. I had been thinking about making some kind of dessert for a hymn sing we were planning on attending this Saturday night, so I thought, why not try these? I’ll link the recipe here. I enjoy testing out new recipes, I’ve been mostly successful 😉, and these turned out really well! They were easily made and cooked. I wouldn’t say that they actually taste like French toast, but they’re still delicious. I hope you’ll cook some up for yourselves!
Happy Baking! Until tomorrow ~ Emily
