Anne with an E
Hello! It’s Wednesday today, so that means another recommendation.
Today I’m featuring a beloved classic series: Anne of Green Gables. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. 😉 I’ve loved these books ever since I first came across them, though I’ve not read them in a little while. I’m sure I’ll be doing so soon! I reconcile the fact of the books being a children’s series and myself not being a child anymore with the convenient detail of Anne growing up in the books, marrying, and having children. That makes it okay, right? 😉
The series is skillfully written. I’ve always enjoyed the descriptions of the people, seasons, and settings, not to mention getting to know the original, interesting characters that live within the pages 🙂. I hope you find a copy and read through the series yourselves!
We picked up this beautiful boxed set of eight books at Ollie’s. Aren’t the covers amazing? I love when a book can be a work of art in two ways, both in the writing and in the covers. They just make you happy when you spot them sitting on the shelves. 🙂
A word of caution: I wouldn’t recommend every book written by this author, not only because I haven’t read them all, but specifically on account of another trilogy that I’ve read by L.M. Montgomery. The content of that series, I believe, wasn’t suitable for all ages. It dabbled in the realm of darker material and events, and, I think, would steer some impressionable readers into wrong avenues. But, I admit, I’m no expert. If you’re curious about which series I’m speaking of, the titles are Emily of New Moon, Emily Climbs, and Emily’s Quest. I was originally drawn to the series for obvious reasons 😉. If you do decide to read the Emily series, I urge you to use discretion.
Happy reading! Until next time ~ Emily
