My Latest Amigurumi: A Panda Bear
Today on Simply Saturday we’ll be taking a look at my latest amigurumi: a panda bear. Let’s get started!
I made this as a gift for one of my niece’s for her first birthday. This is the same pattern used for the Winnie the Pooh bear (and care bear) in this post. I also linked to the pattern in that post, so if you’re interested in that, just follow the link.
Several times times now I’ve searched for a pattern for a specific animal without finding it. It’s been really useful, as a result, to already have a bear pattern that works well and ends up as a decently large toy. Just some color changes and I have three very different looking bears, using the same pattern.
I did have to add a few details that aren’t in the pattern, such as the black patches around the eyes. To start with, I had already inserted the the eyes (which are blue, both because I thought the contrast would look nice, and my niece has blue eyes) back when I was crocheting the body. Then I traced a circle with a pencil, about the shape that I wanted around the eyes. Instead of crocheting patches, I used a needle and black yarn, stitching the oval around the eyes and then filling it in with stitches across the middle.
I think it turned out pretty well, and conforms much more to the shape of the face than a crocheted oval would have.

Altogether, I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. I also just enjoy making things for my nieces and nephews, even if they might not appreciate it quite yet. 😉 Maybe they will when they’re older.
Well, that’s all for now! I hope you enjoyed this little crocheting post. Have you ever crocheted animals? ~ Emily
