The Knights of Arrethtrae
Hello! Today on Reading Wednesday we’ll be taking a look at the book series The Knights of Arrethtrae. Let’s get started!
These books were purchased several years ago at a homeschool convention. In fact, we met the author (Chuck Black)! I’ve been re-reading them recently, and I thought they would be a good series to share here on the blog.
The books may appear to be average adventure books on the surface, but there is more to them between the covers. Among other things, they present biblical principles allegorically. At the end of the each book is a short author’s commentary, explaining exactly what he intended to say with that particular book.
The books each deal with various problems and vices. Rebellion, greed, fear, doubt, unbelief, etc. And also the courageous men and women who overcame these challenges through the power of the King and His Son.
Now, it’s not very often in modern days that we’re fighting shadow warriors with swords. But, looking past the obvious differences between our world and the Arethtraen world of knights and sword-fighting, you see what there is in common. The men and women were not extraordinary, but they made a vow to follow the Prince, wherever He led them. The stories are convicting in many ways; and though the writing is not always the best, they’re compelling just the same. I feel that I appreciated them more in this last reading than when I was younger.
Where to Find the Knights of Arrethtrae:
I’ll leave a link to the author’s website here. He also has some other books on his website, such as an allegory of the Bible, all the way from Genesis to Revelation, set in the same world of knights.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this post. And, as they say in the series, “The King Reigns…and His Son!” ~ Emily
