Manners and Miracles
Hello! I have a few more books to share with you today. 🙂
First up, this autobiography. I found out about this book through a book club that I attended a year or two ago. I’ve read it several times since then. I find the story fascinating, even after several re-reads, as it ranges from America to the jungles and a Japanese prison camp. Darlene Deibler Rose passed through very hard trials, but the good-humored, matter-of-fact way in which she relates them makes for a very interesting read. Her steadfast faith shines through the pages, showing a life lived for the Savior. I hope you’ll find this book and read it for yourself! 🙂
If you’re wondering about the “manners” part of the title, I’ll just explain that sometimes the Austen books are described as books of manners. Anyway, back to the book! The heroine, Anne Elliot, is a young lady of a good family which is in reduced circumstances at the time of the story’s beginning. It then follows the heroine through a number of situations, leading to the eventual conclusion of the novel. I’ll leave you to read it yourself and find out what that end is! I always find the writings of Jane Austen very enjoyable, though the conversation and events are certainly more formal than is customary in modern times. I don’t think it is so far removed from us as to make it uninteresting, however! 😉
That’s all I have for you now, see you later! ~ Emily
