Making a Pocketed Denim Skirt: Part Two

Making a Pocketed Denim Skirt: Part Two

Hello! Today on Simply Saturday we’ll be taking a look at making a pocketed denim skirt: part two. I’ll link to the first part here. Let’s get started!

We left off last week directly after I installed the waistband. Next I added the invisible zipper.

Oh, and I actually bought two packs of forty invisible zippers on Amazon; one in Navy and the other in Tan. I’ll leave a link to the ones I bought. They’re not the greatest quality, but they’ll do! And it’s a lot nicer already having a supply on hand.

Back to the actual zipper installation. When I put in this zipper it was one of the first times I tried out basting instead of pinning the zipper in place to sew it. And I’ll tell you, it was a lot easier! No messing around with pins while you’re trying to sew it down, no shifting (or at least, a lot less. 😉 ) I’ll definitely be using it again in the future!

And here’s was it looked like just after sewing down both sides of the zipper.

And here’s with the finished side seam as well. I was actually pretty happy with how cleanly this zipper turned out. It’s hard to tell where the zipper ends and the side seam begins, which is sort of the point. 😉

And then I began hemming. Here’s an inside look at that…

…and from the outside.

I then attached this button and ribbon to above the zipper. And for some inexplicable reason didn’t take any more photos of the process. Oh well, hopefully I can post the skirt on Modest Monday some time soon, so you can see the finished product.

That’s all for now! I hope you enjoyed this post! ~ Emily
