Reading Wednesday
Ishmael Worth

Ishmael Worth

Hello again! Are you up for another recommendation?

As I was mentally sorting through my books yesterday, deciding on what to share today, I realized that most of the books I’ve recommended have been well-known. Most of you have probably read, or are at least familiar with, the books that I have featured in past posts. Today I’d like to remedy that and share a lesser known, though no less entertaining, couple of books.

The novels in question are Ishmael, and it’s second part, Self Raised. The two books begin from the perspective of Ishmael Worth’s mother, Nora, but eventually shift to that of her son. I will say that some of the events that take place are a little unbelievable. Plus, the books’ main character, Ishmael, can seem a little too perfect at some points. Don’t let that stop you from reading them, however. For myself, I enjoy the rich descriptions of the clothing, settings, and characters. The books are well written and keep your interest, and have you rooting for your favorite characters as you get to know them. The characters also travel a lot of ground in the novels, traversing from Maryland to the Capitol, Scotland and beyond, which gives a wide scope for your imagination. All in all, I’d definitely recommend giving them a read!

My family purchased these books (and a few others from this company) at a homeschool convention several years ago. The books are a little pricey, but well made. Here is a link to the books. While you’re on the website, why not have a look around at the other books. There are several others that I’ve enjoyed from that company. You might just find a new favorite for yourself! (And no, I’m not sponsored or anything. 🙂)

Happy Reading! Talk later ~ Emily
