A Peek into an Artist’s Tool Box: What I Use
Hello again! Today I’m going to do something a little different: an overview of my art supplies! Let’s get started!
This wooden box is where most of my art supplies are kept. It’s a good size, and I don’t have to worry about getting it dirty with the various messy items I use.
Pictured above are most of the contents of that box. Pastels, paints, watercolors, etc. I should probably note that I’m not claiming to be proficient in the usage of all of these mediums. I simply learn as I go. 😉 I’d like to give a closer look at a few of these items, so let’s get started with that now.
The Art Supplies:
First up, my bottled paints. Painting is probably one of the areas of art that I am the least confident in. I hope to remedy that in the future, however. Most of these paints were picked up at craft stores, and in a few cases, Walmart. They’re not the best quality, but they work for me. In the second picture, I’ve shown my brush collection. I use these for acrylic paints and watercolors.
Next, my pastels. These are a little more my style. They can be a little messy to work with, but they are easily blended to make smooth, life-like drawings. I bought the soft half pastels at A.C.Moore. I’m not sure where the oil pastels came from. They used to belong to one of my sisters.
Though I can’t say I’ve mastered watercolors yet, I do enjoy working with them. They can give beautiful color to an otherwise lifeless drawing, and can look smoother than colored pencils. The pink box of watercolors and the pencils are from A.C.Moore. The third box came in an art set from Amazon.
The Finale:
Colored pencils are my most used art supplies( not counting a plain Number 2 pencil). They have endless possibilities, and don’t require anything special to make them stay on the page. No drying time, no water, no paintbrushes. Just you, a pencil, and paper. Can you tell I like them? 😉
My only requirement with colored pencils is that they have to be quality pencils. I know they can be a little pricey, but it’s worth it (to me at least) not to have to work with terrible pencils. I don’t quite remember where the two smaller sets were purchased, but the set of 72 is from A.C.Moore.
Well, that’s all I have for today. Maybe in the future I’ll actually show a few more of the actual drawings that I made with these supplies. Do you have a favorite art medium? ~ Emily
