Prairie Legacy Series: A Quiet Strength
Today we’ll be taking a look at the third book in the Prairie Legacy Series: A Quiet Strength.
(Please ignore the crooked photo.) I’ve now finished the reading the series. Now I’d like to find some other books written by Janette Oke, since the ones I’ve read so far have all been pretty good. (And, I even discovered that she tied in characters from another book into this book. My brother didn’t understand why I was excited by that. 😉 ) Oh, and I’ll link to the other two books here, and here.
The story picks up pretty much where the last one ended, which is something I appreciate. Sometimes books jump years into the future from one book to the next, without any apparent reason. Makes it a little confusing. But anyway, back to this book.
Virginia Simpson is still living at home, and working at the post office. On her day off, however, she is visited by a surprise guest, one that is welcome, but not always understandable. Her old friend Jenny is again in some sort of trouble, though is as uncommunicative as ever. She also has a daughter, one that will play a large part in Virginia’s life, though neither know it yet. Jenny’s visit is not long, and soon Virginia is back to her daily routine of work at the post office and wondering when her suitor, Jonathon, will return from the West. He does, eventually, and very shortly afterwards they marry and move into his elderly grandmother’s home. Virginia has a hard time in her first months of marriage. Her new husband is away from the house, working on their future home, for most of the day. His grandmother still cooks the meals, as much as Virginia would like to, and Virginia soon begins to wonder what was the point of her marrying at all, if life would be as it was… Well, I won’t spoil anymore of the story! Why don’t you read it for yourself?

Well, that’s all for now! Oh, and I think I’ll ask a totally unrelated-to-the-previous-topic question: Are you looking forward to Autumn? I know I am! ~ Emily
