Continuing the Story: The Tender Years
Ciao! Today I’m sharing another book for Reading Wednesday: The ninth installment in the Love Comes Softly series. A book called The Tender Years. Let’s get started!
Previous to our trip to a thrift store about a week ago, I had had no idea that this book even existed. I was looking over the bookshelves, when the name Janette Oke caught my eye. Being already familiar with the author, I picked up the book without more than a glance at the back cover. (I also picked up three other books by the same author.) It wasn’t until I was looking over the book in the car that I discovered it was a continuance to this series. Needless to say, I was excited to find a book featuring some of the same characters I had come to know in the previous eight books.
The Tender Years follows the journey of Virginia Simpson as she tries to navigate her way from girlhood to womanhood. (She is the granddaughter of Marty Davis, who is a prominent character in the first books.) Virginia struggles with obedience to her parents, and though she wants to do the right thing, often fails in that desire. Her friend, Jenny, is no help to her, often causing her to fall short of her goal. It’s only when a tragedy strikes their small town that Virginia fully realizes there are consequences for bad decisions, however trivial they may seem at first. She wrestles with guilt and bitterness, until she finally finds peace. I won’t say how she finds peace, just yet. You’ll just have to read the book and find out for yourselves!
A Way to find The Tender Years:
I’ll leave a link to The Tender Years, here. Oh, and I just found out, when I searched for a link to leave here, that there are three other books featuring Virginia. I might just have to hunt those down!
I hope you enjoyed this post! I’ve got to be going now, see you later! ~ Emily
