Prairie Legacy Series: Book Two
Today we’ll be taking a look at the second book in the Prairie Legacy series: A Searching Heart.
(Oh, and ignore the bent book in the photo. Unfortunately, it came that way from where I bought it online.) As you may remember, I talked about the first book in the series in this post. I received the rest of the series for my birthday a week or so ago. I’m working through reading them, now. 😉 I’ve enjoyed the ones I’ve read so far, and am looking forward to writing about them in future posts.
The book picks up not long after the last one ended. Virginia Simpson thinks she is sure of what she wants to do with her life. Attend college after high school graduation, marry her high school sweetheart, and raise a family with him. She is also looking forward, in the more immediate future, to becoming an aunt, since her big sister Clara is expecting her first child. Her plans, however, are sidetracked by unexpected sorrows and events, and she suddenly loses direction. Eventually, she comes to terms, to a point, with the things that have taken place. She secures a position at the local post office, and seems to have settled down to life as a spinster.
She is again shaken from her routine when she receives startling news about an old friend, Jenny Woods. Jenny has had an accident, and is hanging onto her life by a thread. Virginia had worried about her old friend Jenny ever since the girl had left for college, leading a life defined by parties and dances, with little time spent on anything academic or lasting. Virginia still had hopes that the girl would turn from her present life, and give her life to Jesus Christ, but is worried that there may not be enough time left for the girl…

[…] (Please ignore the crooked photo.) I’ve now finished the reading the series. Now I’d like to find some other books written by Janette Oke, since the ones I’ve read so far have all been pretty good. (And, I even discovered that she tied in characters from another book into this book. My brother didn’t understand why I was excited by that. 😉 ) Oh, and I’ll link to the other two books here, and here. […]
[…] is the last book of the series. (I’ll leave links to the previous three book reviews here, here, and here.) Next week I’m planning on taking a break from Janette Oke books, and share from […]
