Hearts of Fire
Welcome to another Reading Wednesday. Today we’ll be taking a look at Hearts of Fire, a book published by Voice of the Martyrs.
This book contains the stories of eight women and what their conversion to Christianity cost them. They were tortured, beaten, and imprisoned, but through it all, stood strong in their faith. The trials they faced were very serious, and as usual with books such as this, made me wonder as to what my own response to such hardships would be? If you read the book, you’ll probably find yourself asking the same question.
This book also reminds me of Evidence not Seen, another book I shared on the blog last year. The trials the woman of that book endured were also monumental, as she endured life in a Japanese prison camp over the years of WWII. The stories in Hearts of Fire, obviously, don’t go into so much detail, since all eight stories are condensed into one book. That doesn’t make them any less convicting, however!
I will note that it took me a little while to actually be immersed in the book. I felt that the writing was a little, elementary, maybe? Who knows, I might have just been too hard on it.
