Chronicles of Avonlea

Hello again! Today on Reading Wednesday we’ll be taking a look at an offshoot of the Anne of Green Gables series, Chronicles of Avonlea. Let’s get started!

I found this book at a used book sale for only a dollar, which I was pretty happy about. Especially since I’d never read it before!

The novel is actually a collection of twelve short stories; the first one of which tells the tale of how Anne of Green Gables brought Theodora Dix and Ludovic Speed into a definite engagement. Speed’s are notoriously slow-paced, and Ludovic had been courting Theodora for fifteen years!

The other eleven stories do not feature Anne in any very meaningful way; but instead center about the other inhabitants of the island. Such as Old Lady Lloyd, Abel Blair, the Penhallow’s, and a number of other interesting personages. 😉
